The Graduate School of The University of
Tennessee requires all applicants to have a four-year baccalaureate
degree. The Graduate School also requires official, English language
transcripts from your school, as it does for U.S. applicants. This
is a lengthy process. Please request transcripts at least two months
before the April 10 application deadline.
All international applicants must have taken the Test of English
as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) within the last two years. Applicants
must earn a TOEFL score of 550 or higher (213 on the new scale).
Scores must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service
to the Graduate School. You cannot be exempted from this requirement
unless English is your native language, you are a citizen of the
United States, or you have received a degree from an accredited
U.S. college or university within the last two years.
TOEFL tests are offered several times a year, but it is necessary
to obtain a special information bulletin for many countries. Copies
of these bulletins usually are available at U.S. Information Service
offices or at Institutes of International Education.
